Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation and Nestlé Health Science Launch Digital Recipe Tool Powered by Nutrition Insights and Machine-Learning

Gut Friendly Recipes offers dietitian-approved recipes for people with digestive issues and Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) patients

“What can I eat?” That’s the number one question that people with chronic digestive issues ask the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation.   

To help answer that question, Nestlé Health Science and the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation launched a digital recipe tool called Gut Friendly Recipes. 

Gut Friendly Recipes offers more than 500 evidence-based, dietician approved recipes. Developed by Nestlé Research, the platform applies a machine-learning algorithm and nutrition data to create personalized meal plans.   

Chronic digestive issues are common among people of all ages. According to a recent survey by the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation, as many as 30% of general U.S. consumers have had chronic, ongoing gastrointestinal or digestive problems. 

“People who have chronic digestive problems can often feel at a loss about what they can eat,” said Amir Sakandas, Global Category Head at Nestlé Health Science. “As dietary therapy has become a credible treatment option for people with digestive issues, including for Crohn’s Disease, the Gut-Friendly Recipe site encourages an evidence-based approach to recipes including resources for patients following the Crohn’s Disease Exclusion Diet which is now in The European Society for Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism (ESPEN’s) guidelines.”

The recipe finder is designed for use by patients, caregivers, nutritionists, dietitians, and physicians caring for patients with IBD or other digestive and gastrointestinal issues who need help with meal choices and planning what foods they can eat.
